Suspect arrested for robbery of 85-year-old woman
It was just one more shocking incident in December’s violent crime wave… but the New Year’s Eve assault and robbery of an eighty-five year old Belize City woman made even the most hardened observers hang their heads in shame. Today we are happy to report a break in the case as a suspect has been arrested and charged. Thirty-four year old George James of Card’s Alley was formally arraigned this morning in the court of Magistrate Sharon Fraser for the crimes of robbery and handling stolen goods. On the afternoon of December thirtieth Grace Ysaguirre was walking on Wilson Street when she was approached by a man who grabbed a bag from under her arm and proceeded to push her down into the drain. After an investigation, the police arrested James who took them to several different residences where they recovered a number of items identified by Ysaguirre as hers, including a purse, jewellery box, hearing aid and watches. James has pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until his next court date on February ninth.
