Dion Pitter elected as 3rd Trustee of CWU
An election was held by the Christian Workers Union on Saturday to choose a third trustee on its executive board. A hundred and twenty-four members participated in the process, casting a majority of ballots in favor of Ras Dion Pitter. The election succeeded a previous exercise in December 2013 during which Pitter and Maureen Mahmud-Reyes broke even at the polls. The results saw Pitter gaining seventy-four votes, while his opponent garnered forty-nine votes. The CWU was recently accepted back into the fold of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize and representatives from the umbrella organization, including auditor Francisco Zuniga, Second Vice President Marvin Mora, General Secretary Rebecca Suazo and Director of Education Kathleen Flowers were present to oversee the electoral process. The election was held at the union’s office in Belize City.
