One-legged man charged with stealing bike
A man with only one leg appeared in Magistrate’s Court today accused of stealing a bicycle. Alex Lopez was charged before Magistrate Sharon Fraser for burglary and granted two thousand five hundred dollars bail. In November, Michelle Willoughby of Amara Avenue reported that Lopez went to her home and shortly after he left she realised her bike was missing. During his burglary arraignment today, there were indications that Lopez also owed the court sums of money for another offence, but a computer malfunction prevented clerks from determining what case that was related to. However, it is known he has been charged with grievous harm after his mother, Josephine Lopez, told police he struck her on her face, breaking a bone under her eye. The outburst occurred, she says, after she asked a female friend of his to leave their home on Curassow Street. Lopez was remanded to prison today when he failed to meet bail on the burglary charge.
