CITCO throws Christmas party for 500 kids
Today the Belize City Council hosted its annual Christmas party for an estimated five hundred children. According to Councillor Yasmin Shoman, this year CITCO wanted to outdo the expectations of their invited guests.
Yasmin Shoman, City Councillor
?Today is a very special event for us. We are catering to five hundred underprivileged children from the ten constituencies throughout Belize City. It?s the Belize City Council?s way giving back to those who are less fortunate. They are getting a special toy from Santa, a bog of goodies, a plate of dinner, and we had the food blessed by the Reverent Father Leroy Flowers, lot of entertainment. A wholesome family atmosphere for children who have a very hard time in life. We went to all of the schools throughout Belize City and we requested a list of ten of the most underprivileged students from the principals and we decided to treat them to a special evening where they can forget all of their problems and just be made special and be the centre of attention for a change, and I think they are having a wonderful time.?
?This is the first time that we?ve had it at the Civic, usually we?ll have our tree lighting and Christmas special in one where Santa Claus is at the park and we provide light refreshments, but we wanted to do something on a much larger scale. It?s been quite successful and the mayor had agreed to make it an annual thing every year, so we?re very pleased with the outcome.?
