Police distribute care packages/groceries to elderly
At this hour, members of the Police Performance Arts Club are dramatising a skit for residents of the Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly. The event is part of the second annual Christmas Gift Campaign organised by the community policing initiative. According to officer commanding, Inspector Diana Hall, since October officers have been appealing to the business community for various household items. Hall says thanks to the generosity of merchants, in addition to the entertainment, care packages will be distributed at Sister Cecilia’s, Youth Hostel, and the Golden Haven Home. Donations also include toys and groceries for children and their families on the southside of the city.
Inspector Diana Hall, O.C., Community Policing
?We sent out letters to the business community and we went back and verify. And I must say the response was positive.?
?We want to tell them to give more, to help others, to make life easier for some people. And I would like to mention that we also have a police outreach programme, and it?s not only around Christmas time but throughout the year we try to assist people with the help of the community. So all these that you see here is going back to the community.?
On Wednesday, the officers will be distributing gifts at the Golden Haven Home and on Friday, toys will be given to the boys and girls of Jane Usher Boulevard in Belize City.
