Thieves target city residents for cash/valuables

In the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, thieves are also making their presence felt in the city. According to police reports today, petty criminals have been hard at work, lifting cell phones, purses, and jewellery. The latest incidents include a report by fifteen year old Henry Thomas that as he neared the intersection of Unity Street and Cemetery Road, a man walked up to him and grabbed his Nokia phone. Thomas went to the police and got an officer to accompany him to the area where they found the perpetrator in the same spot. That man has been detained, but up to news time no charges have been filed against him. The second attack occurred around eleven on Monday morning at a store on Baymen Avenue. Reports are that a lone gunman entered the establishment and robbed A & G shopping centre of cash. Armed with a description of the bandit, police say they are actively seeking one suspect for questioning. Authorities say they have boosted security efforts countrywide, but tonight they are asking the public to be extra careful.
