Radio station hands over home for holidays to mother of 7
Today thirty-six year old Barbara Pollard, a single mother of seven children, is the proud recipient of a brand new three bedroom house. The building was imported to Lords Bank from Spanish Lookout and fully decorated through the efforts of local radio station Love FM and a long list of sponsors. This afternoon during brief ceremonies in Lord’s Bank the keys were officially handed over to the family.

?What we wanted to do was to give back to the community, through Love FM, More FM, Estereo Amor, and Love Belize. We decided that a lot of people are needy, especially around Christmas time; they have a lot of children that need to spend Christmas and have a good Christmas. So we try to give back to one of the needy families throughout the country.?
Barbara Pollard, Proud Homeowner
?Well I feel good and I feel happy. I always say inna life I want to get a job and work so my kids could get a better home. Thanks to the good Lord for it and the sponsors and everyone who helped.?
Edith Tesecum
?Out of the many letters we received she was the neediest. We came by to visit her, we saw the conditions; they were deplorable. In fact, deplorable would be an understatement, she had holes in the walls, she had a bed that was about to fall through the floor with her bedridden mother in it. She had her children that none were in school. She actually has a daughter that?s eight years old and because they did not have electricity they used candles and the candle fell and the eight year old was burnt with third degree burns from her waist down to her knees. So we put all those together and we decided that she was the one that would be the most needy.?
?They got a fully loaded house, they got a refrigerator, they got television, they got stove, they got beds, they had a complete bathroom, septic tank, sofa set, Christmas tree, toys, I could go on, they just got so many things.?
In addition to taking care of her seven children, Barbara Pollard also cares for her invalid mother. While the Pollards new home was being set up, the family was sent away for a weekend in San Pedro. Home for the Holidays organiser Edith Tesecum says the donation would not have been possible without the assistance of a number of local businesses.
