Annual Brukdown competition scheduled for December 23rd
Most Belizeans can agree that there is nothing like an Ole Time Christmas Bram. But if you don’t exactly know how to organise one at your home, don’t worry, you can enjoy an entire evening of Brukdown music on December twenty-third during what is rapidly becoming a new twist on an old tradition.
William Neal, Director, Institute of Creative Arts
?We are very ready for the second annual Wilfred Peters Brukdown Competition. We have Miss Leela returning to defend her crown. That is one of the things we decided that instead of prohibiting someone from returning, we decided it would be a good impetus for the other competitors to really come and try and dethrone her, the way it is done in other regions within the Caribbean. So she is coming back, we have quite a number of people who are…itching, as I say inna Kriol, good Kriol, itching to come knock ah down off ih high horse.?
?We have wonderful prizes. The pot has increased to over nine thousand dollars and we have even added through NEMO, the Hazard Mitigation category, and the idea there is to educate people using the genre as well. So, quite a bit is happening with Brukdown and I think this year will be bigger, betta, and badder.?
The Wilfred Peters Brukdown Competition takes place on December twenty-third at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts in Belize City. Tickets are only ten dollars each with open seating.
