Parties in San Pedro Land Dispute Reach Private Settlement…
Another land dispute which was put to rest today involves a parcel near the municipal airstrip in San Pedro which is under construction by Tropic Air. The airline company was in the process of expanding its operations on the island by building a maintenance facility when it received a stop order on June nineteenth. The directive from the Supreme Court was sought by the Benny’s Group of Companies on behalf of Construction Depot which also claimed ownership of the land. Despite an investment of two million dollars, an admission by Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega that the Department of Lands and Surveys made a mess of the paperwork and the cancellation of Tropic Air‘s lease, the matter headed to court. Both parties were then asked to settle the matter privately and after several weeks their attorneys were back in the Supreme Court this afternoon to formalize the resolution. The terms of the settlement, we are told, will remain confidential; suffice it to say that Tropic Air and Construction Depot are satisfied with the outcome.
