Channel 5 hands over Gimme 5 proceeds to needy organisations
Following our anniversary celebrations last week, this morning, Channel Five handed over cheques to five humanitarian organisations. And when representatives arrived at our studios today, we confirmed the news that the management of Great Belize Productions had decided to triple their portion of the proceeds from Gimme Five. That’s right, triple… times three. We collected two thousand five hundred and twelve dollars and fifty cents along with your ten thousand and fifty Gimme Five coupons. We multiplied that amount to come up one thousand five hundred seven dollars and fifty cents for each organisation. During brief handing over ceremonies today, officials from the Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly, the Scouts Association, Youth Enhancement Services, Marla’s House of Hope, and Helpage Belize showed up to collect their cash. News Five’s Julia Castillo found out how the monies will be used.
Karen Cain, Youth Enhancement Services
?Youth Enhancement Services just finished its plan of action for 2006 and we plan to go national, so the money will be used to empower young women nationwide as much as possible.?
Sharon Pollack, Helpage Belize
?Helpage is very in need right now and one of our programmes that is the most precious to us is the homecare programme where we go out and give baths to the elderly, the shut-ins, the disabled and this is definitely going towards their homecare programme.?
Rose Armstrong, Sister Cecilia Home
?We are concentrating fully on doing our roof. This will help to go at least to start getting the estimate for the roof, so this will be put to good use.?
Orlando Garcia, Scouts Association
?The money will used to assist us with our training programmes to help train the Scouts and the adult volunteers that we have in our programme, as well as assisting us with various programmes and activities in our scouting calendar for the year 2006.?
Yolanda Mendez, Marla?s House of Hope
?We had a fire and this money will be put in good use to buy more beds and cribs for the babies. Thank you very much.?
Management would again like to thank all our sponsors, host William Neal, and the hardworking staff of Channel 5 for their part in making Gimme 5 2005 a success.
