Child molester never served 7-year sentence in old case
A convicted child molester fined for his attack against an eight year old is tonight behind bars after authorities dug up a case file from the year 2000 which showed that he had been sentenced in absentia to seven years behind bars for another incident. According to court reports, Godfrey Coote was found guilty of aggravated burglary in January 2000 after he entered the home of an ex-girlfriend and chopped her four times with a machete. The case slipped through the cracks until earlier this week when Coote found himself in Magistrate’s Court accused of the indecent assault of a female minor. He was found guilty of the charge and fined for having oral sex with the child. But someone in the room heard a bell go off when the name Godfrey Coote was called out and a search turned up the details of the older case. Coote had been placed on remand until the case file was found and tonight we understand that that is where he will stay until court officials can review the matter and decide what to do next.
