Police Seek One Person of Interest…

Late this evening, Officer Commanding Precinct Three told News Five that Police have been conducting an intense investigation since Monday night, and are following a number of leads which could assist in the identification of Whylie’s killer.

“As a result of that the CIB personnel attached to Precinct Three proceeded to that area where they saw a slim built male person of Creole descent who was lying face up on a bicycle with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the lower part of the abdomen. BERT personnel who had responded to the area as well transported the person to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. That person was later identified as one Winston Whylie, a fifty-four year old Belizean of a Police Street Belize City address, and the initial investigations have revealed so far that Winston Whylie was riding his bicycle on Victoria Street when he was approached by a lone gunman on a bicycle as well who fired the shot towards his direction causing the said injury. Mr. Winston Whylie was being treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around one fifteen am on the twenty-ninth of July 2014. His body now lies at the KHMH morgue awaiting a post-mortem. The Police has done a considerable number of things during the course of this investigation. The scene was processed. No expended shells were retrieved from the scene. The area was canvassed…a number of persons were spoken to. There is certain information that was retrieved as a result of the canvassing and at this time we have a person of interest that we are looking for who we believe can assist us during the course of this investigation.”

“Have you all been able to come up with a motive because the persons we spoke to didn’t refer to him as any sort of trouble person?”

“So far we haven’t been able to establish a motive in regards to this incident. But what we do know is the fact that Mr. Whylie is someone who would frequent that area but he was not known to us as a trouble person. He was not known to be someone who is gang-affiliated, so we are still trying to establish a motive in regards to this incident.”

According to Anderson, the person being sought is well known to Police.
