Mother Nature Carnival Band Celebrates 10th Anniversary….

Carnival 2014 is quickly approaching and carnival groups across the city and other districts are putting the final touches to their elaborate costumes for King, Queen and revelers. But while the fete is a highly anticipated event for the September Celebrations, it is also very costly. These bands would perennially look to sponsors for assistance for the costumes. That aside, the bands would annually carry out fundraising activities to generate additional funds. This year, defending Carnival Road March Champion, Mother Nature Creations is celebrating its tenth anniversary and is putting off its third annual pageant fundraiser. News Five spoke to Band Designer, Leroy Green and four of the six delegates competing for the title of Miss Mother Nature.

“We have six contestants and they will be making five appearances. They will open the show with a bang, with an African dance, I must say, since our team of the pageant is Daughters of Africa; Celebrate Carnival. They will open with an African dance. Then there will be introduction, casual wear modeling, time competition, evening wear and interview and finally the carnival costume and carnival spirit competition, which is worth the most marks. It has two main purposes actually. One is to sensitize the public that the band is still alive and going strong…we have almost if not two thousand so far that we have to be turning back people. So we are giving our fans out there a show to enjoy. And it is also primarily to raise funds for the band.”
