This evening, fifty Belize City families and their children received gift donations courtesy of local businessman Simon Quan and Company. News Five was on hand as the presentation was made through the Young Women’s Christian Association at their headquarters on Freetown Road.

?He is giving thirty need families all kinds of gifts for the Christmas; household items for the adults and toys for the children. He?s also giving gifts to twenty of our seniors from our Seenager?s programme, Christmas gifts. And so the party is a combination of thirty families that are underprivileged and also twenty Seenagers. So it?s fifty families really which will be getting gifts today.?
?Oh the Y is so happy because we were having a hard time getting monies together to have a Christmas party for the seniors. So we were really delighted when we found out that they were willing to come over and let us host it, use the Y as the venue and they bring in everything else. All the food and everything were donated. We have turkey, ham, rice and beans, salad, everything. I mean, it?s the works here today…it is the works.?
This afternoon the Y also found itself on the receiving end of an additional donation as President of the New York Belizean Committee Incorporated, Mike Soberanis, presented a cheque to the organisation’s Elaine Middle in the amount of two thousand dollars. The money will be used to help finance Y programmes in 2006.
