Denny Grijalva Sues OWTC…Judgment Reserved!

This morning, Denny Grijalva was in court, but it had nothing to do with Noh Mul, that well known and previously pristine Mayan monument which was destroyed by Grijalva’s company. In fact, this time the U.D.P. standard bearer for Orange Walk Central is the claimant, since Grijalva’s company is suing the Orange Walk Town Council for unpaid debts. The matter dates back to 2012 when Grijalva’s company did work on four streets for the previous Town Council. This morning both parties were in court for the hearing. Grijalva’s attorney, Darrell Bradley, told News Five that the defence is based on technicalities.

“Today was the trial of the matter, and essentially what it was it was a debt action that Demar’s had sued the Orange Walk Town Council claiming that some works were done in 2012 and were not being paid for. This morning we had the trial of the matter, and the defendant Town Council took certain procedural points which had to do with the sealing of contracts so it involves some technical defences and we’re supposed to do written submissions on legal points and closing arguments and I expect the Judge will hand down judgement sometime at the opening of the Supreme Court which is in September. We are confident and there is no dispute that the work was in fact done, so that the defence that they allege is in relation to certain payments which were not counted and also to the affixation of the seal on the contracts, so there was no dispute in relation to the fact that the works were completed to the satisfaction of the Town Council, so that really what they are raising are technicalities. We face that point sometimes within Belize City as well. Sometimes the technical defences are successful and sometimes they are not. But in truth and in fact you can’t dispute that the work was in fact done.”

Denny Grijalva’s company is seeking payment to the tune of some eighty-eight thousand dollars for works done within Orange Walk Town.
