Salvation Army: we need more toys
Two thousand toys in two weeks. It was an ambitious venture to begin with, but the folks at the Salvation Army are refusing to give up, even though only a fraction of the gifts they need have been donated. Tonight officials hope to strike a sympathetic chord in your heart.

Since the Salvation Army launched the 2005 Toy Drive, response to the appeal has been slow. Today there is simply not enough gifts to present to the two thousand five hundred children the organisation expects to surprise this year. Officials are concerned, as in four days one thousand boys and girls from Belize City will be attending the Salvation Army?s annual Christmas lunch. According to Major Errol Robateau, only five hundred presents have been donated.
Major Errol Robateau, Regional Commander
?We realize that the people want to give, but maybe they don?t realize that Christmas is right around the corner… but it is picking up a little bit now.?
Robateau is tonight asking the Belizean public to please remember the true meaning of the holidays.
Major Errol Robateau
?Christmas is a very special time and as the angel Gabriel gave the message, he said peace on earth and goodwill toward men. The church tries to ask the people to have the peace that Jesus gives, which is the real peace. But goodwill comes from us people, sharing with one another and helping each other to enjoy this wonderful earth that God has given to us. And this is why we do, it to bring happiness and joy to those at this time when everybody is seeking that joy at Christmas.?
If you have a toy to donate to a needy child, please drop off the item at the Salvation Army Headquarters on Regent Street as soon as possible.
Following the Christmas lunch next week, the Salvation Army team will travel to Georgeville in the Cayo District where children there will also be receiving gifts.
