Intruder gets 5 years for breaking into B.D.F. boss home
A man accused of breaking into the home of the Commander of the Belize Defence Force has been convicted and sentenced to serve five years in jail. Donald King of Democracia Village today pleaded guilty to burglarising the Ladyville home of Brigadier General Lloyd Gillett in the early morning hours of August twenty-sixth. Gillett told authorities that when he got up that morning, he saw King sitting in his living room. The B.D.F. Commander grabbed a machete and chased the intruder out of the house. A search party found the man, administered a beating, and handed him over to police. King was additionally charged with a mischievous act because he initially told authorities his name was Mike Godoy. For that charge, Magistrate Dorothy Flowers sentenced him to three additional months in jail.
