Another case of human trafficking reported
Tonight there are disturbing reports of yet another case of human trafficking, this time emerging from the western part of the country. Details are still sketchy, but we understand that a fifty-two year old woman and her thirteen year old daughter have been held in police custody after several concerned citizens reported to authorities that the mother had been prostituting the teenaged girl for money for more than a year. Police sources tell News Five tonight that charges of procuration against the mother are pending. The accused has identified herself as a naturalised Belizean of Guatemalan heritage. This incident comes only two days after local INTERPOL officials confirmed reports that another thirteen year old girl, this time from the Stann Creek District, had been sold by family members to a foreigner. The victim was found in El Salvador with the man who claimed that he had bought her in Belmopan in June. The child was later deported back to Belize and has since been placed with Social Services. No arrests have been made against anyone in connection with that case.
