Police officer and 2 others detained for OW robberies

Story PictureThree men are detained, including one police officer, and awaiting charges following Thursday’s robberies in Orange Walk Town. The culprits were dressed in camouflage B.D.F. and police uniforms. Late this evening, the second in charge of Orange Walk police station, Inspector Selvin Tillett confirmed that P.C. Selwyn Griffith of Belize City along with Dominique Strack, the Manager of Palm Island and Calbert Budd Jr. of Antelope Street, are in police custody. They are expected to be charged this coming Monday. Orange Walk Police say that at 11:00 a.m., the trio robbed a Chinese store in Trial Farm of an undisclosed amount of cash and phone cards. Next they hit two other Chinese stores before heading to Belize City also stealing cash and calling cards. Police intercepted the brazen thieves in a red Montero Belize City in which they found the stolen goods and the camouflage clothing. One of the accused, Calbert Budd Jr., in 2008 walked free of the murder of Jason Avila and is the brother of former notorious figure, now deceased, Marlon Budd who was gunned down several years ago not to far from his home.
