…Woman Believes Her Son is Wanted for the Murder

Police have not officially released the name of the man wanted for Vargas’ murder, but one woman from Unitedville is convinced that her nineteen year old son is the suspect. Today, Arita Gomez told us that she was picked up by Police and locked down on Saturday as Police tried to find her son Steven. She claims that she and her son live in separate homes, and the first indication that something was wrong was when Police knocked on her door at four thirty Saturday morning.

“They ker mi from mi house gone back that the crime scene. When dehn ker mi by the crime scene, dehn just circle around with me. All the time I di tell dehn that unu have to wait mek I make a phone call fu somebody come for the key. They say well if yon oh have nobody—because I tell dehn that I noh have nobody—so if dehn want ker mi, dehn have to ker mi with the lee bwai. My nephew Roshawn, he only three years old. I noh know weh my son do, but I noh have, me as a parent I can’t tell my son go kill or noh kill. They lock me down overnight and they tell me that they just got me on an investigation to the stabbing incident. I tell them I noh have nothing fi do with it; officer I noh have nothing fi do with it because my son noh live with me. My son life by ihself…ih have ih girlfriend weh dehn live. So I decide ah come out ah my house and I make my son stay dehn and I come dah wah next house. Me noh know weh gone on so I noh know why the police officers had to lock me down for that.”

“Well okay, dehn live pan the other side; I live pan this side. Me as the parent, I do not know. I can’t say if dehn di have beef or dehn noh di have beef. But all weh I know the people di say oh the bwai say ih wah chop my son in two; that’s why ih do it. I can’t say because I wasn’t there. I can’t say if the man and he had wah misunderstanding because I noh know.

“Since the stabbing incident happen, I noh see my son none at all.”

 

Police believe that the suspect may be seeking sanctuary in a village in the Belize District, but say it is only a matter of time before he  is taken into custody.
