Mexican Exhibition Showcases Six Painters

The Embassy of Mexico is tonight officially opening a collective art exhibition entitled “AEQUITAS” at the Institute of Mexico in Belize City. The artwork of six Mexican artists: Marisol D’ Estrabeau, Leon Alva, Carlos Generoso, Ruben Carrasco, Monica and Cristina Navarrete Bösch will be on display. The artists were tasked with creating pieces that evoke the principle of equality and symmetry, while staying true to their individuality. Four of the six artists are in country for the opening and this morning, News Five found out how the artists came together to make the exhibit a success.

“We are very happy to be here in a beautiful country. We are very happy to share our artwork. We are friends, artists, from different places in Mexico and everybody is welcomed to see what we are doing.”

“Tell us about your pieces that are featured here and what is it that when they do look at it that they are going to take away; that is Marisol.”

“My pieces talk about duality; it is about the relationship with nature, with society, with partners or in any way that you are in touch with it and how do you feel in front of this ambient or situation or relation.”

“I paint these pieces especially for this exhibition. It is a group of pieces that I did thinking about the feelings of people. So when they invited me because I come from Acapulco, the other side…of the Pacific Ocean. So when they invited me, I made a special collection for this exhibition and this is what I did. Four pieces that I can show the feelings of people.”

“I’ve been working with my artwork for a little bit more than thirty years. I started in Mexico City and I moved to Cancun twenty-seven years ago. First of all, I’m very happy to be here sharing my work with the Belizean community and if I want to say something about my work in a simplistic way, I think my work it turns around the cosmos—the sky, nature—it is always a positive mark.”

“I put together these three works: the Chiclero, the Products of the Sea and the Garbage because we produce garbage in the end. After that, I had another hypothesis because you have piracy, so I paint myself on this picture because I am the boat and she is the port. So “el punto de atraque” [the point of contact]. So the woman when give you a product you stop. So no more piracy, no more ports. So the color is selfishness. I represent the green by selfishness. So es el mar del egoismo or the Sea of the Self or to be Selfish.”

While the official launch of the exhibit is tonight, it will remain open and available for viewing until September nineteenth.
