Cab Sec appointed joint commissioner for Guat talks
In news from Cabinet, that executive body has appointed its secretary to serve as the Commissioner for Belize in the Belize Guatemala negotiations. Via a press release issued today, it was announced that Robert Leslie will fill the role of commissioner as set out in Article Twenty in the September seventh 2005 agreement as part of the framework for negotiations and confidence building measures. According to the release, Leslie will now become a member of the joint commission which is made up of a coordinator recommended by each country and a representative by the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States. As its mandate, the commission will coordinate and implement specific projects in both Belize and Guatemala. Leslie’s role is adding to his list of responsibilities which include serving as Cabinet Secretary, acting as Governor General when the G.G. is out of the country, and Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Defence. The next meeting on the Belize Guatemala negotiations is scheduled for late December early January in Guatemala.
