SJC students dig in to build fence for primary-schoolers
Today if you happened to be travelling along Coney Drive in Belize City, you might have noticed a large group of students gathered just in front of the Buttonwood Bay Nazarene Primary School. Volunteers from Saint John?s College Junior College were busy busting a sweat digging a trench as part of the first phase in the construction of the school’s fence. According to teacher Shawndy Sheppard, the fence is badly needed for the safety of the children.

?We do need a fence here, so we are making that start so that we can have the public see what we are doing and they can help us with donations or whatever it is. Anything that you have, any small thing it will help because we do really need help with the fence seeing the condition. And the location of our school, it?s close to Coney Drive which is like a highway, and many cars keep passing up and down everyday. And when the kids are playing sometimes a ball will go on the street that the kids will run after it, not really paying attention to what?s happening, and accidents can happen like that. And not only that, anyone can walk into the school yard and we are trying to prevent things like that. We have seen many crazy things that have happened to kids in the past on the news, and that is one of the things that we are trying to prevent.?
On Friday, the school will be holding a variety show to help raise more money for the construction of their fence. If you would like to support the cause, you can attend the show which starts seven-thirty p.m. at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall. Tickets are only five dollars.
