Caye Caulker murder trial wraps in Supreme Court
Meanwhile in the Supreme Court, the defence concluded its address in the murder trial of police constable Sheldon Arzu. Arzu is accused of shooting Caye Caulker resident Ruben “Pony” Alarcon on June seventh, 2003 at that island’s police station. During the trial, prosecutor Kamar Henry told the court that the case is “about the abuse of power and excessive force.” He said that although officer Arzu claimed Alarcon was advancing on him, he was shot in the back of the head and this must mean he had been running. Justice Troadio Gonzalez will address the jury on Thursday after which they will deliberate on a verdict.
