Charges dropped against 2 men accused of raping teen girl
Meanwhile, in the Supreme Court today, sexual assault charges were dropped against two men for an incident involving a fourteen year old girl. According to court reports, prosecutor Marjorie Moyston has submitted an “offer of no evidence” in the case against twenty year old Robert Chavez and twenty-five year old Leon Perez, both of Gales Point Manatee. The men were arrested on May first of this year after a fourteen year old girl reported to police that Chavez and Perez pulled her into a school building in the village and had sex with her against her will. As a result of investigations, Chavez and Perez were arrested and charged with rape and carnal knowledge. But while those charges have now been dropped against both men, on December seventh, Leon Perez will have to report to court again as he has additionally been charged with suppression of evidence in connection with the same case. The victim’s family is claiming that after the incident was reported to the authorities, Perez allegedly visited their home and told the mother of the girl, “If yuh noh drop the case, yuh noh wah see yuh daughter.” That matter will continue before Justice Michelle Arana.
