Cyclist killed in traffic accident
A man from San Roman Village was killed in a traffic accident on the Northern Highway. Around seven Wednesday night thirty-five year old Apolonio Toledano was riding his bike from Carmelita to Orange Walk Town when he was struck by a Ford pickup near Tower Hill. The driver, American missionary Ester Burke, claims she saw the cyclist coming towards her and attempted to avoid him, but the rider swerved into the path of the van. Toledano was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. Police have since impounded Burke’s van and detained her for questioning.
