Chamber of Commerce Awards Expo 2014 Participants

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry recorded what it says is its most successful Expo Belize Marketplace this year. With over two hundred booths—one hundred and fifteen of them being businesses—the figures show that over nineteen thousand persons attended the expo on the sixth and seventh of September. As a way of giving back to the public, the Chamber of Commerce had twenty-three door prizes to issue to attendees. Today, a small award ceremony was held to present the top five prizes to the lucky recipients. News Five was there and spoke with Marketing and Public Relations Officer of B.C.C.I., Jamie Rocke about the event.

“So basically, if you attended the expo, you got a chance to enter into our raffle. Everyone was given a raffle ticket and they were able to put their name and number and we had a selection of the winners at the expo on the last day, on the Sunday. And we picked twenty-three winners because we had twenty-three gate prizes and today we have the top five winners at the ceremony.”

“Well it range from spas to mani/pedis to flight to the United States. It was very well-rounded in the gifts. The top prize was a trip to United States. We had overnight stays at the Biltmore and the Radisson; we had a complete physicals courtesy of the Belize Healthcare partners so we had really good prizes this year.”

“Where do you see the expo going saying next year and in the future?  You’ve already surpassed what you did last year with the amount of guests coming out; the amount of prizes you gave away as well as the amount of booths you guys had there and the businesses that took part. Where do you see the expo going in the future? Still being centralized to Belize? Moving outside of Belize?”

Jamie Rocke

“This year, we integrated the introduction of more micro-businesses so that is something we definitely want to enhance next year because Belize is built on a lot of small businesses. So probably next year, the focus could be around that as well. Right now I think ITVET is the home of the expo. I know we’ve slightly outgrown the grounds a bit in terms of parking, but Belize is still very supportive. They are always coming out in drones and we are glad for that.”
