Freight offices burglarised at airstrip
Tonight Belize City police are investigating a bizarre break-in and burglary at the municipal airport. According to police, around ten-thirty last night, three masked men armed with handguns drove up to the offices of Maya Island Air Express Freight and Tropic Air in a blue Mazda pickup. Sources tell News Five the bandits immediately tied up the unarmed security guards on duty and then proceeded to break into Tropic’s departure lounge and its mail and cargo room, making a mess of the area and stealing several pieces of mail. Reports are that the gunmen did the same thing at the Maya Island office, ransacking the place and opening packages. Employees on site at the airstrip today told us that the thieves used a white car owned by one of the security guards to make their getaway. We understand that vehicle was recovered today on Coney Drive. As for security guards forty-seven year old Jean Fitto Luc and forty-six year old Isaac Opohr, authorities say within a half an hour of the incident, they managed to free themselves from their ties and call the police. If you have any information that may assist the police in their investigation, please contact the nearest station or call 0-800-922-TIPS. According to the police, a thousand dollar reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.
