B.D.F. soldiers convicted in absentia for prohibited ammo

A Belize Defence Force soldier who has apparently fled the country has been convicted in absentia and sentenced to three years in prison. Thirty-seven year old Eloy Hemmans of Belize City was accused of keeping prohibited ammunition and was found guilty by Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord after hearing the testimony of several witnesses. The ammo in question is nine, seven point six-two calibre bullets. The prohibited rounds were found in Hemmans’ home on October sixteenth, 2004.
