Kremandala tops Benque United in RFG play
Good evening, I?m James Adderley and we bring another dish of Sports Monday. In week nine of the RFG Insurance Cup Tournament Kremandala got the opportunity for a second home win by hosting a struggling Benque Viejo United inside the M.C.C. Grounds.
And it?s the host team with this early look at goal that they somehow allow to escape.
At the other end Emmanuel Martinez dances past two Krem offenders only to see his great individual effort stifled by the Kremandala keeper.
On this press, Erwin Flores provides excellent service for Deon McCauley whose header crashes into the side netting.
It?s another look at goal for Deon McCauley, but he certainly lets this left foot get away this time.
Again, it?s Krem on the attack and this time it?s Deon Flowers on the move, but William Luna handles the right foot punch.
In the meantime, when Warren Flowers pushes this play into the danger zone, Deon Flowers is the first to respond and he beats the goalkeeper to put Krem ahead 1-zip at the thirty-seventh minute.
The Krem team almost doubles the lead in the early second half, but again Luna from Benque comes up with a big time save.
Nevertheless folks, we can all agree than Deon McCauley should have done better with this opportunity he carved out for himself.
I guess we?ll have to conclude that young Deon McCauley is having one of those days when he can?t come up with a goal right here.
Of course you can?t keep a good man down forever and when Emory Nunez centres to Deon, the striker?s header hits nothing but cord as Kremandala goes on to take the three points from a Benque team still looking for its second season win.
In other results from around the league, in Group A: Wagiya burned the Placencia Pirates 1-zip, while the F.C. Belize clubbed Cayo Avengers 5-nil. Over in Group B: New Site Erei edged BOCA 1-zip, San Pedro and Verdes battled to a 1-1 stalemate, while Mango Creek butchered the Calcutta Bulls 5-1.
And we just want to remind you that eight of the thirteen teams in this B.P.F.L. tournament are headed to the post-season.
The standings look like this: over in Group A it?s Wagiya leading with twenty-six points, Hankook Verdes show twenty-one, F.C. Belize twenty points, Kremandala sixteen. If the playoffs were to start today it would be these four teams from the Group A that would make it into the season. Placencia Pirates has eleven points, Benque Viejo United three, Cayo Avengers is still without points so far.
Over in Group B: New Site Erei leads this group with twenty-three points, San Pedro Seahawks has eighteen, Mango Creek F.C. sixteen, BOCA F.C. fourteen. This would be the top four teams to make it into the post season from Group B. Calcutta Bulls is still hanging in there, they also show fourteen points, with Belmopan United thirteen points is still in this race, so Group B certainly has a lot of jockeying left before the final four to make the playoffs from this grouping emerges.
Now here?s what this week?s schedule looks like. On Friday, Wagiya will host Kremandala at Dangriga, while on Sunday Verdes travels to Placencia Pirates, and Benque Viejo faces F.C. Belize at the M.C.C. Grounds. Over in Group B, Cayo Avengers travels to Belmopan and New Site Erei plays host to Calcutta Bulls on Saturday, while on Sunday BOCA F.C. sails to the Seahawks.
In cycling news, the Cross Country Mountain Bike Race, which has been very highly anticipated, will be staged this Sunday November twentieth and will travels from Roaring Creek to Belmopan then through Burrell Boom to the Mile twenty-four and a half on the Northern Highway for the big finish. It?s a race for Barber Shops and Base Boys. Of course there is a vetting committee that will provide the answers for who can and who can?t register for this particular event.
Hey folks, that?s it for now. We invite you back same time, same place, next week. Jah over all, I?m James Adderley.
