Jury acquits woman of 2001 manslaughter

Also in the Supreme Court today, a young woman was acquitted of manslaughter charges in a case dating back four years. A jury found Emelia Roberts-Armstrong not guilty of the death of Wilfred Tench at the Los Cocos Bar in Belize City on December eighth, 2001. The defendant testified that Tench grabbed her in her groin area and she slapped away his hand. She says Tench then fell and hit his head. Another witness testified that he tried to revive Tench by putting ice in his pants, but did not pay attention to what occurred next and continued drinking. After he passed out, Tench was taken home, but the following day he began bleeding from his mouth and ears and was taken to the hospital. He died on December fourteenth from an injury to the back of his head. When Roberts-Armstrong heard that she had been cleared of the charges, she wept and had to be supported by friends. She was defended by attorney Dickie Bradley, while the case for the Crown was presented by Kamar Henry. Justice Troadio Gonzalez presided.
