Car thief runs into bad luck on highway

A vehicle stolen from Belize City has showed up sixty-five miles away on the Western Highway, along with the man accused of stealing it. It was the first big catch for the four day old police checkpoint at Red Creek in the Cayo District. The drama unfolded around three this morning when according to authorities, the police saw a black late model Mitsubishi Montero approaching them and became suspicious after they saw the driver, identified as twenty-seven year old Gareth Longsworth, acting very nervously. The police conducted a search of the vehicle but did not find anything amiss. That is until they asked Longsworth to show them proper documents for the S.U.V. When he could not, Longsworth was taken to the San Ignacio police station, where police discovered that the vehicle was stolen from a Belize City residence. The vehicle’s owner, sixty-three year old Eldina Williams, was informed and showed up at the police station where she positively identified the vehicle as hers. Gareth was promptly arrested and charged with theft and removing a vehicle from an owner without consent.
