Cop’s murder trial postponed due to new evidence
And while we are not reporting on any new violent crime, the judicial process continues to move slowly on past offences. Today the murder trial of police officer Sheldon Arzu was scheduled to open in the Supreme Court but was postponed due to the introduction of new evidence by the prosecution. Prosecutor Kamar Henry told the court of Justice Troadio Gonzales that over the weekend she received the statements of six new witnesses and the defence would need time to study them. Arzu was originally charged with manslaughter in the June seventh, 2003 shooting death of Ruben “Pony” Alarcon at the Caye Caulker police station. The charge was later upped to murder in April of this year. The trial will resume this Friday.
