Jalacte: a look back at the incursions 10 years ago
Jalacte is a remote southern community in the Toledo District and, for many years, was off the beaten path for most Belizeans. While its inaccessibility placed it out of reach for the average tourist, it has remained open to Guatemalan nationals who wander freely across the border into Belize to conduct business or attend school. An international highway has since been constructed linking both countries and undoubtedly, it may have increased the influx of Guatemalans into Belize considerably. Tonight, we revisit a feature story first aired in the early part of 2000.
