P.G. treasury clerk accused of $23,000 theft
In other courts news, this week a treasury official from Punta Gorda was formally arraigned in connection with more than twenty-three thousand dollars of missing money. According to police, in September authorities were tipped off that a person or persons were skimming money from accounts. An investigation was immediately launched, which led to the arrest of twenty-four year old Maureen Coleman, a second class clerk. Coleman is accused of more than twenty-nine counts of theft, but we understand that an internal audit is still underway at the treasury office in P.G. and its findings may result in even more charges being filed against the young woman. Coleman, a resident of West Street, was ordered to reappear in Punta Gorda Magistrate’s Court on November twenty-ninth.
