Construction worker convicted of sex with minor

A man from Crooked Tree Village has been convicted of unlawful carnal knowledge following two days of proceedings in the Belize City Supreme Court. According to court reports, late Tuesday evening, a jury of seven women and two men took just over two hours to find twenty-nine year old construction worker Jaime Moreno guilty in connection with an incident in June of 2004. The victim, who was fourteen years old at the time, testified that Moreno was one of three men hired to repair the roof of her aunt’s home on the south side of Belize City. She claims that Moreno entered the house and proceeded to have sex with her. Two weeks later, she finally told her mother what had transpired. Moreno, who we understand was undefended in court, will be sentenced on November eleventh.
