Mark and Cordel now have no credibility, says Barrow
Switching gears slightly to another hot political issue, Barrow commented on the imminent return of backbenchers Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde into the Cabinet room and presumably, the good graces of the People’s United Party.
Dean Barrow
?They have no credibility whatsoever. They appear to be utterly unprincipled and completely selfish. And certainly in terms of the government?s taking them back, it now causes people to be dispirited I think about the whole political process. This is the kind of thing that gives fuel to the school of thought which says that politics is so nasty and brutish and mean and it gives politics and governance a completely bad name, it helps to deepen the scepticism of the electorate, and it?s all together a bad thing for democracy and our political process.?
Espat and Hyde are expected to be officially returned to Cabinet by week’s end. The conventional wisdom says that the P.U.P. needs their electoral muscle in the Albert and Lake I divisions for the March municipal elections. As for why they returned home instead of launching a third party, well, we’ll wait for them to offer an explanation.
