Rape suspects charged by police
Recently reported cases of rape involving young Belizean women have heightened police concern. The latest incident occurred around six-thirty on Thursday evening and involves a sixteen year old student and a thirty-four year old suspect identified as Aris Cacho. One disturbing aspect to the case is that at the time of the alleged incident, Cacho was out on bail for a similar charge involving the same minor that is alleged to have occurred in Dangriga. This time, the incident reportedly took place at a Belize City residence. The young girl alleges that while at the house Cacho held her at knifepoint and had sexual intercourse with her against her will. Cacho has been charged with rape.
Meanwhile in San Ignacio, a mother took her twelve year old daughter to the police station where she reported that the girl had been sexually assaulted by a sixteen year old boy. A medical examination has revealed that the young girl had been sexually active. As a result, the minor has been charged with carnal knowledge while police continue their investigation.
And finally in an update to a story we ran on Monday night, Orange Walk police have arrested and charged twenty-seven year old Arelio Aguilar with the rape of a sixteen year old, which occurred on Friday night. In that incident the student told police she was buying food from a vendor around eleven forty-five that night when Aguilar offered to drop her home. He instead took her to the new bypass road outside the town and had sexual intercourse with her against her will.
