F.C. Belize tops Kremandala in RFG play
Good evening, I?m James Adderley and you?re on board this weekly ride we call Sports Monday. Week eight of the RFG Insurance Cup Tournament brought part two of the Belize City derby to the M.C.C. Grounds yesterday. If you remember, in part one F.C. Belize and Kremandala had settled for a 1-1 stalemate, so we take you to yesterday?s confrontation inside the M.C.C. Grounds.
First though, we say maximum respect to Wilhelm White a former star at the M.C.C. Grounds, now disabled by a traffic accident, but still giving time to the sport he loves. We say stay strong bro.
Now let?s go to the action on the pitch. It?s Kremandala looking dangerous in the early going on this play until the errant shot is launched by Deon McCauley. At the other end, this centre from off the right side puts F.C. Belize in the offensive mode, but Kevin Dawson in goal deals with the problem for Kremandala.
It?s more Krem when Deon McCauley looks for Kello Leslie, but Leslie can?t make the connection with the head. We must admit, Kello Leslie makes the right moves right here but the end result does not impress the scoreboard.
Folks we?re in the final moments of first half when Rudolph Flowers fires this spotkick from just below the median line, the attempt at clearance drops to Erwin Flores who gets tagged for the dreaded auto goal as F.C. Belize takes a 1-zip lead into intermission.
In second half, Jeremy James gets this opportunity to double his team?s lead, but he simply can?t generate the speed to beat Kevin Dawson.
Now check this impressive run from Dennis Serrano ? he has the speed and some of the moves, but the finish is woefully lacking at a time when Kremandala does need an equaliser.
Peter ?Metro? Mariano then tries to hook up with Kello Leslie, but the header sails over the crossbar. Meanwhile, this spotkick from Eian Henry somehow reaches the feet of Tyrone Muschamp, but he can?t extend the lead from F.C. Belize.
It?s getting late and Krem needs to up the ante, so Leslie finds McCauley with the quick spot kick, but the required results remains out of reach.
However, F.C. Belize is still thinking of securing the three points when Rudolph Flowers fires this wicked grasshead burner that is eventually corralled by Dawson. F.C. Belize nevertheless gets the 1-zip big W to become boss of the Belize City turf.
In other results from around the league, in Group A: Benque Viejo United fell to a 1-zip score at Wagiya; of course, Hankook Verdes dished a 3-zip bomb to Cayo Avengers. Over in Group B: it was Calcutta Bulls doubling Mango Creek 2-1; Belmopan United and BOCA F.C. settled for a 1-1 draw, while New Site Erei punched the Placencia Pirates 2-zip.
Current standings look like this people, Wagiya leads Group A with a total of twenty points; Hankook Verdes is right behind with seventeen; so is F.C. Belize, they also show seventeen points; Kremandala is at a distant ten points in this particular grouping; Placencia Pirates show eight; Benque Viejo United three, while Cayo Avengers are yet to post a point all season.
Over in Group B: News Site Erei leads with nineteen points; the San Pedro Seahawks show sixteen, BOCA has amassed fourteen points; Calcutta Bulls, despite their win over the weekend remains with thirteen having lost a protest from the Belmopan United team. They have lost all three points, so they remain with thirteen at this juncture; Mango Creek shows ten points; Belmopan United they show nine.
Looking to week nine in the R.F.G. Cup Tournament, here?s what it will look like: in Group A Verdes battles Benque Viejo at the Norman Broaster, F.C. Belize travels to the Placencia Pirates, and Kremandala will host Cayo Avengers at the M.C.C. Grounds; all Sunday games.
Over in Group B: Mango Creek faces BOCA down south, that?s on Saturday night; then San Pedro Seahawks travel to New Site Erei; while Belmopan United goes up against Calcutta Bulls in a grudge match. Having lost that protest to Belmopan, the Calcutta Bulls will certainly be trying to turn the beat around
In softball news, the C.L.B. Rogers Invitational Tournament was staged over the weekend at Rogers? Stadium, and it?s the third year in a row that the Belize City softball community has paid tribute to Carl Lindberg Rogers, who was the Deputy Prime Minister of Belize for some time before he passed away. This year found Team CTC and Lord?s Bank Sunrise locked in a 3-game series. Lord?s Bank took game one, 5-4; CTC came back to win game two, 3-1 and then shut down Sunrise 18-2 in the rubber match. Greta Davis of CTC emerged MVP. She also won the homerun derby for which she took home two trophies and a bicycle. We say congratulations.
In other softball news, the Belize Softball Federation will host the National Women?s Team of El Salvador in a six-game series at Roger?s Stadium and the Joan Garbutt Stadium in Esperanza Cayo, District from November fourth to the sixth. The action kicks off November fourth with the opening ceremony held inside the Rogers? Stadium. The National Team of El Salvador will face B.T.L. in its opening game and then play the Belize National Team in the nightcap on November fourth. On November fifth it?s El Salvador facing a combination of Team CTC and Lady Rebels, and of course again they go up against the Belize National Team in the nightcap. On November sixth, the action moves to the Joan Garbutt Stadium where El Salvador will face the Belize National Team in the opener and will see action against the Esperanza Softball Club in the nightcap.
Finally, in cycling news the Belize Cycling Association will be having election of officers tonight at the City Centre Conference Room. All cyclists, managers, service teams and officials are invited to this very important meeting. Hey, right about now people cycling needs a new start, they need new blood, and certainly we have seen cycling decline to the point where the elites and the non-elites are probably posting the same time in races, which means there?s a decline from the highest level. I hope we could get back to that highest level by the time the annual Cross Country Cycle Classic comes along.
