Inga Woods Launches Art Exhibition at Image Factory
Belizean artist Inga Woods is launching an art exhibit at the Image Factory on Friday. Her collection of various pieces showcases the beauty of the female form but, most importantly, it is a stand being taken against the rape of women. This morning, we caught up with Woods while setting up her display and she explained the significance of the body of work.
Inga Woods, Belizean Artist
“My art show is mainly based on like pop culture. It’s also a mix of everything because I have like some political issues and some social issues, some cultural issues and also some personal issues that other people would have and they can relate to. Like the one behind me is like more like a spiritual evolving and then some of my other works would have pop culture but then with some of the same social issues that people face today.”

“Was there a specific inspiration, if I may, that led you towards bringing together your collection of artwork and displaying if for the Belizean public?”
Inga Woods
“Like the scene behind you would be the ones that I have the most concentration on it’s because of the rape culture and not a lot of people talk about it and especially how it’s October and some girls would be dressing up really revealing. So it’s kind of like I want to bring awareness to that because it does happen and nobody talks about it. And like, you know, a lot of people would blame themselves like oh I put myself in that situation or you shouldn’t have been wearing that or you drank too much. I see that a lot on Facebook, like on other issues and it really is upsetting so I want to bring that point and it’s really hard to say, I can’t really point to any of my work because it just mainly revolves around everything.”
“Is there a specific piece that you are more intimate with than others that you’ve done that are on display?”
Inga Woods
“Yeah I have four pieces that are my absolute favorites. The one behind me and then I have two other ones, like a pop culture one and the other one is more like a society culture-wise and the other one’s another spiritual piece.”
The art show launches on Friday evening at the Image Factory.
