Truck driver charged with manslaughter
A truck driver whose high speed bumping of a passenger car resulted in the driver’s death has been charged. Nineteen year old Keith Budd of Burrell Boom was today arraigned by Magistrate Dorothy Flowers for the crimes of manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, and driving without due care and attention. No plea was taken since the offences are indictable and bail was set at four thousand dollars. On the afternoon of October twenty-first Budd was driving his dump truck from Burrell Boom toward Bermudian Landing when he attempted to overtake a car driven by Reina Mendoza. In the process he knocked the left side of Mendoza’s vehicle which sent it spinning out of control before finally coming to rest in a swampy area. Mendoza was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The case will next be heard on December ninth.
