Man detained for rape of 16-year-old

A young man has been detained while Orange Walk police investigate a report that he raped a student on Friday night. According to the sixteen year old girl, she was buying food from a vendor around eleven forty-five that night when she was approached by a man who offered to take her home. The police would not say whether the young woman knows her assailant, but she told authorities after she got inside the man’s vehicle he took her to a bridge on the Orange Walk bypass where he offered her one hundred and fifty dollars in exchange for sex. When she refused, she says the man forced her to engaged in sex.
