25 persons Arrested in GSU Weekend Crackdown

On Friday, the Gang Suppression Unit conducted a series of searches on San Pedro. The all-day anti-drug operation led to the arrest of as many as twenty-five persons who have since been hauled to the Magistrate Court in San Pedro after they were arrested and charged for drug trafficking and possession of a controlled dug. But the amount of drugs is small. In the case of the cocaine, the amount confiscated is eight point six grams.  Late this evening, News Five spoke with Commander of the GSU, Inspector Mark Flowers, who says that this is but the first of many operations that will be held on the island to deter criminal activities on the island.

“An anti-drug operation was conducted on San Pedro which resulted in the arrest of twenty-five residents of that island town. Said persons were arrested in one instance for possession of eight point six grams of cocaine and six others were arrested for possession of controlled drug which is cannabis. All twenty-five persons were taken to court and in the case of the cocaine, one of the accused persons pled guilty and he was remanded to custody pending sentence on the third of December, while the remaining twelve were released on bail. The operations are consistent with our efforts to curtail on the availability of drugs on that island and it is something that we intend to continue.”

There was a major drug bust in the West. Around two p.m. on Saturday, members from Special Patrol Unit and B.D.F. conducted a search of a bus on the Bullet Tree Road. The search led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing twenty-one point five pounds of suspected cannabis. The drugs, which are believed to have been brought across the border from Guatemala, were labeled as found property.
