Manuel Heredia Says G.O.B.’s Decision Will Not Affect Tourism

As you heard earlier in the newscast, the Leader of the Opposition, Francis Fonseca he supports the decision taken by the prime minister not to allow a cruise ship passenger to disembark the Carnival Magic.  This morning, when we caught up with Minister of Tourism, Manuel Heredia Junior, we asked if the government’s decision would affect the growing tourism industry and the country. Heredia said he didn’t think so.

“As the minister of tourism…Minister are you concerned any at all by the publicity that Belize has been getting because of the fact that the prime minister made that executive decision when it came to the US request. Are you concerned any at all that that will affect our tourism industry?”

“I don’t believe so. I believe that prime minister took the right decision. I believe that the interest of our people comes before anything and I totally support the decision that my prime minister made.”

 

This year, the Belize Tourism Board has been reporting an impressive increase in cruise and overnight tourism to the Jewel.
