Maya and Latino music concert this weekend

Because of Hurricane Wilma, you most likely put off making plans for the weekend. But now that the country is in the clear, you are probably scratching your head wondering what you can do. Well, we have an event that you might want to consider. A Maya and Latino Night of Music is scheduled for Saturday night at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts. Today concert organiser Lucio Alcoser, a veteran in the industry, stopped by News Five to tell us more.

?It is in commemoration for the month of October, which is designated the Maya and Latino. And at the same time, we are trying to bring out the Belizean talents that we have; we need to give them recognition. For example we have the legendary vocalist Joe Moreno from San Ignacio, we have Daniel August who used to sing with Los Cañeros, we have the Marimba from Benque. We have the harp, Mr. Florencio Mes, and we have Lucio and the New Generation and we have many, many more. We have the Belizean Entertainment, that?s a young group; we have another group, Vision, playing Reggaeton. So it?s a compilation of a lot of different music from Belize, modern music for all ages.?

?Is this the first time that such a concert will be taking place??

?This is the very first time that we are organising something like this because we need to get our artists recognition. We just can?t leave them so that they get old and fade away.?

?So following tomorrow night?s performance, should we expect to see similar events taking place??

?Definitely, definitely. I have already spoken to Jesus Acosta from Wyoming, he is my very good friend, he says he is coming on the next show. I have to thank all the sponsors that have made this event possible.?

?Now the money raised from this proceed will go towards what??

?Well towards our culture right. I do not know, because it is expensive, an endeavour like this, it?s every way that money goes, so we have to take the initiative and try to do something, at least. Our main point is to bring awareness about our culture.?

Maya and Latino Night of Music starts eight-thirty Saturday night. Tickets can be bought at the Bliss for thirty, twenty and fifteen dollars.
