Gwen Liz Student Busted with Sawed-Off Shotgun
On Monday, a team of police officers on mobile patrol in the area of the Novelo’s Bus Terminal in Belize City set chase behind a group of men who had just exited a bus. Three of the men made good their escape, but police caught up with one. He turned out to be a former Gwen Lizarraga High student who was found in possession of a prohibited firearm being a sawed off shot gun loaded with cartridges. This morning, after spending a night in lock down, nineteen year old Jonathon Gideon, was taken to court. Gideon, who has already beaten an attempted murder charge some years ago, pleaded guilty to the charges of Kept Prohibited Firearm and Ammunition without being granted a gun license. He was sentenced to a total of eight years behind bars; three for prohibited firearm and five for the ammo. The magistrate ordered that the sentences are to run concurrently. The bust took place on Monday morning, when police saw the group walking towards Cemetery Road, but Gideon made a U-turn in the opposite direction. When the cops caught up with him, they found the firearm and ammo in a bag he was carrying. In mitigation, Gideon apologized saying he had the firearm because he was tired of being disrespected and taken lightly.
