Placencia special constables sworn in
It was a way for the public to greatly assist law enforcement authorities and since the special constables programme was first established in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, similar efforts have been set up in Dangriga, Punta Gorda, and now Placencia. Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid spoke with News Five about the latest class of constables who will assist in protecting the fast growing peninsula.
G. Michael Reid, Police Press Officer
“They underwent a training programme that ended on Saturday, so they already had a couple of special constables in Placencia, so this really boost up the numbers there and the police there are really grateful for the help. We had a lot of good work on the part of these constables, the police officers in those areas are relieved, there’s a lot of pressure off of them. These special constables can help in many areas; they assist at the station, and also in patrols on the street.”
The special police constables are trained in procedures of arrest, evidence, and report writing. They are authorised to make arrests, but only in their specific geographical areas.
