Unlicensed loaded revolver results in 2 year jail term
An unlicensed thirty-eight revolver and ammunition has landed a young Belizean in Hattieville prison. Twenty-two year old Joel Belizaire pleaded guilty today in Magistrate’s Court to the two firearm charges and was fined ten thousand dollars for the gun and another ten grand for the ammo. Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord demanded that five thousand be paid immediately with the remainder by November fifteenth. But Belizaire couldn’t come up with the cash and in default was sentenced to two consecutive one year terms in Hattieville.
Around nine on Sunday night Belizaire was in a car along with James Swan Junior, Delveth Retreage, Lester Young and Jody Burgess, when police stopped the vehicle on North Front Street near Rhaburn’s Alley. The car and its occupants were taken to the Queen Street station where the loaded revolver was found in the centre console. All five men were charged, but when Belizaire pleaded guilty, those charges were dropped against Swan, Retreage, Young and Burgess.
