Cop’s Drivers’ License Suspended for Traffic Offence

A police corporal and his brother, who is employed at the post office, were both convicted on Thursday morning in the courtroom of Magistrate Dale Cayetano. While the men escaped jail time, their driver’s licenses were revoked for a three-month period and they were fined.  On Boxing Day, December twenty-sixth, 2012, ASP Antonio Rosado, who was on duty near the roundabout at Cemetery Road and Central American Boulevard, stopped a vehicle driven by the corporal and his brother.  The vehicle’s license had expired and Rosado ordered the passengers to exit but they didn’t and instead Corporal Edward Castillo and his brother Lloyd Dyer, sped off. Castillo and Dyer were jointly charged with one count each of obstruction, driving a motor vehicle not covered by third party risk insurance and Castillo was additionally charged with the offense of Rescuing a Person to be Charge for an Offense.

During the trial, Prosecutor Donielle Hawke called three witnesses to the stand including ASP Antonio Rosado. He told the court that Castillo, annoyed that his vehicle would have been impounded, took control of the steering wheel and then drove away. Castillo and Dyer, however, testified that they took the vehicle to the Raccoon Street Police Station but no one dealt with them so they left.  The brothers called one witness who did not help their case and generally corroborated what Rosado had said. Both the corporal and his brother were fined two hundred dollars, while Castillo is to pay an additional two hundred dollars for rescuing his brother. The duo will also not be able to drive for three months.
