Millennium Girls take female football title
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re locked into this latest dish of Sports Monday. Week Five of the RFG Cup Tournament brought part one of the Belize City derby to the M.C.C. Grounds where Kremandala hosted FC Belize in a battle for dominance inside the metropolis.
And two minutes into the bitter rivalry it’s Kremandala with the first golden opportunity, but keeper Elroy Rawley bats the header from Emory Nunez over the crossbar.
Folks there’s no denying it’s a quick start for the Krem team when Ernest Wiltshire finds Emory Nunez whose header gives his team a 1-zip lead some twenty-four minutes into the action.
FC Belize looks to tie the ballgame on this run from Jeremy James, but the striker does fail to deliver.
Krem then looks to make it a 2-nil lead off this centre, but Rawley beats Nunez in the air.
Dennis Serrano could double the lead off this move after beating his man, but no one can catch up with his pass–if it was a pass. At half the host team still boasts a 1-zip lead.
We’re some seven minutes into second half when Tyrone Muschamp gets this ball to Jarro James who beats the keeper and sets up Daniel Thomas to score into an empty net and we have got a tied ballgame at 1-apiece.
With a new lease on life FC Belize turns up the pressure and looks to take the lead a minute later when Rudolph Flowers forces Selvin Rodriguez to come up with a big time save.
Folks keep your eyes on the action. Dennis Serrano is viciously taken down by number eleven Mark Sambula inside the eighteen. Sambula is awarded a yellow card, but more importantly Kremandala gets a penalty kick. It’s Dennis Serrano who steps up to the pill. It bounces off goalkeeper Rawley and comes back to Serrano…instead of scoring Serrano applies for a pilot license.
FC Belize then gets its turn to break the tie thanks to the manoeuvrings of “T-Bully” Muschamp, but the turn around shot from Rudolph Flowers is negligent.
Of course we must ask Jarro James, weh gone on yah, after misfiring from point-blank range.
In the closing moments, this spot kick from “Metro” Mariano provides “Kello” Leslie with the opportunity to execute the bicycle kick, but he doesn’t get enough of the ball to make it count. At the end of ninety minutes both Belize City teams walk away with a point apiece from the 1-1 draw.
In other action around the league, in Group A Calcutta Bulls trampled over Benque Viejo United 3-1, Wagiya remained undefeated by forcing a 3-3 tie with Hankook Verdes, while the Placencia Pirate pummelled the Cayo Avengers 5-1. Over in Group B, Juventus defaulted to Many Creek FC, the San Pedro Seahawks sunk Belmopan United 3-zip, while New Site Erei blanked BOCA FC 2-zip.
Looking ahead to week six in the B.P.F.L. folks, we can tell you the Norman Broaster Stadium will see the Cayo Avengers hosting Kremandala. At the Carl Ramos Stadium Wagiya comes out against Belmopan United?this is an out of zone contact. At Placencia the Placencia Pirates will hook up with Benque Viejo United, and here at the M.C.C. Grounds inside Belize City, FC Belize will take a look at Hankook Verdes.
Over in Group B, BOCA will host Calcutta Bulls at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium, out at the island the San Pedro Seahawks gets a visit from Mango Creel FC, and the People’s Stadium will see Juventus going up against New Site Erei in certainly a case of two teams streaking in opposite directions.
In the meantime folks, let’s play catch up on the female match that was staged before the B.P.F.L. showdown yesterday inside the M.C.C. Grounds as Millennium Girls took on Lake I.
We’re early into the ballgame when Kara Kisling strips Kendra Clarke and pushes the pill past the goalkeeper to give the Millennium Girls a 1-zip lead.
It’s more Millennium Girls when Kerrisha McCauley gets this open look, but fails to convert. The rebound reaches Anna Gonzalez, but goalkeeper Gomez comes up with the save.
Lake I gets the opportunity to tie the score from the penalty spot, but Kendra Clarke unleashes a right foot that sails high.
The M Girls try to double the lead after that, but Kara Kisling fails on this attempt.
People, check this out. This ball sails through the goalkeeper’s legs to Giselle Topsey, but she just couldn’t make the connection. So at the half it’s still a 1-1 score.
In second half Kara Kisling tries for her second goal of the match with this run off the right wing, but the shot is straight to the keeper who handles.
It’s Kisling again attacking from the right side – this time finding Topsey who blows the finish. For the Millennium Girls, goal number two comes when number ten Helen Flowers crushes this left foot that tangles in the far corner of the net for the 2-zip lead.
In the meantime folks, Kara Kisling certainly left her mark on this. Here she manoeuvres into a one on one situation against goalkeeper Gomez. She hits the far upright, Giselle Topsey controls top of the key and she finds the back of the net as the Millennium Girls go on to the 3-zip big W to win the 2005 Belize City female football title and we say congratulations.
In post-season awards, Kara Kisling emerged M.V.P. and Best Forward. We certainly send our maximum congratulations there. Devon Reid, Best Goalkeeper; Helen Flowers Best Midfielder; and Shanelle Gentle Best Defence.
Of course we’ve got to tell the Millennium Girls, when you’re big, you’re large. That’s it for now, we invite you back same time, same place, next week. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
